About the role

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode. Responsibilities

  • Highly skilled mechanic who safely performs components of diagnostic, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of fixed plant operational equipment and related systems.
  • Perform system troubleshooting, maintenance and component removal, repair and installation of jaw and gyratory crushers, vibratory screens, conveyors, dust suppression/collection systems, mobile conveying systems, pump, pit dewatering, hydraulic systems, etc.
  • Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance such as changing filters in the dust collection systems, checking screens, seals for leakage, oil levels and lubrication systems.
  • Perform the removal, repair and installation of piping/pump components, such as: valves, expansion joints and check valves.
  • Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining work orders and performing work area inspections.
  • Train and mentor other employees.
  • May operate mobile equipment such as: forklifts, cranes, and boom trucks.
  • Perform as a Fill-in Supervisor as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 - Processing Diagnostic Mechanic: Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance. Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude. FPM Diagnostic Mechanic I: The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while achieving 35% score on a written assessment where required. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge, as well as safety. Must be able to demonstrate proficient basic welding skills.
  • Level 3: Processing Repair Employee: One (1) year of experience in fixed plant operational mechanical/maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance. Must have completed academic and competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees) and have experience demonstrating required mechanical aptitude. Selected candidate shall demonstrate ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while also passing a written assessment. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge, as well as safety.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $24.00 - $39.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.

Criteria/Conditions

  • Work in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
  • Be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation.
  • Occasionally may be asked required to life moderately heavy to heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
