FIT NYC Adjunct Faculty Pool - Social Sciences, Philosophy
FIT, an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, seeks part-time adjunct faculty for the Social Sciences Department in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The college offers a unique blend of hands-on experience, classroom study, and liberal-arts grounding across more than 45 majors, preparing students for leadership in the global marketplace.
About the role
The Social Sciences department invites applicants to join a pool of candidates for possible adjunct teaching assignments. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the following philosophy courses:
- Business Ethics
- Environmental Ethics
- Philosophy: Ethics
- Philosophy of Art
- Animal Ethics and the Fashion Industry
- Introduction to Political Philosophy
- Introduction to Asian Philosophy
- Informal Logic: A Guide to Clear Thinking
- Anxiety and Fear: Introduction to Existentialism
Adjunct instructors deliver course material, assess student performance, provide guidance both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.
Requirements
- Earned Master’s degree, plus thirty (30) additional and appropriate graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and teaching experience.
- The Master’s degree requirement may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program where the Master’s is not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.
Pay
Compensation is governed by the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement. The base rate is $89.98 per hour for candidates meeting minimum qualifications. Final rate, step, and appointment rank may be higher based on demonstrated qualifications and the school’s criteria for hiring “above the first step,” as outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
