FIT, an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, seeks part-time adjunct faculty for the Social Sciences Department in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. About the role

The Social Sciences department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the following sociology/anthropology courses:

  • Introductory Sociology
  • Clothing and Society
  • Youth Subculture, Identity, and Fashion
  • Cross-Cultural Studies
  • Cultural Expressions of Non-Western Dress and Fashion
  • Cultural Awareness, Design Responsibility, and the Law
  • Sociology of Race and Ethnic Relations

Adjunct instructors deliver course material, assess student performance, provide guidance both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.

Requirements

  • Earned Master’s degree, plus thirty (30) additional and appropriate graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and teaching experience.
  • The Master’s degree requirement may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program where the Master’s is not required.

Qualifications

Preferred: PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.

Schedule

Part-time adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will maintain this posting to create a pool of candidates for potential future assignments and will contact applicants whose qualifications align with programmatic needs.

Pay

$89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step, and appointment rank are determined by a candidate’s ability to demonstrate they meet additional criteria for hiring “above the first step,” in accordance with the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
