The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Social Sciences Department, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. FIT has been a leader in career education for over 70 years, offering a blend of hands-on experience, classroom study, and liberal arts. The college provides more than 45 majors and grants AAS, BFA, BS, MA, MFA, and MPS degrees, preparing students for professional success in the global marketplace.

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides the foundation for an FIT degree, integrating traditional academic study with career preparation. It houses seven academic departments, 17 minors, and two interdisciplinary majors, fostering reflective, critical, and engaged global citizenship. FIT seeks faculty passionate about their field, demonstrating exceptional professional capability in instruction design, learning enrichment, globalism, and technology.

About the Role

The Social Sciences Department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates will teach one or more of the following economics courses:

  • Macroeconomics
  • Microeconomics
  • Labor Economics
  • International Economics
  • Money and Banking
  • Fashion Economics
  • Economics for Fashion Creators
  • Personal Finance
  • Economics of Art and Culture
  • Environmental Economics and Policy
  • Economies of Latin America

Adjunct instructors deliver course material, assess student performance, provide guidance, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available in the online catalog.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Master's degree, plus thirty (30) additional and appropriate graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and teaching experience.
  • The Master's degree requirement may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program where it is not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.

Schedule

This is a part-time, adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will maintain this posting to create a pool of candidates for potential future assignments and will contact applicants whose qualifications align with programmatic needs.

Pay

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) governs compensation. The base rate is $89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step, and appointment rank may be higher if the candidate demonstrates qualifications that meet the school’s criteria for hiring "above the first step," as outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp 88-89).
