About the role

Tallahassee State College (TSC) is seeking to build an applicant pool for the position of Social Sciences Adjunct Faculty within the Social Science Division. This position is primarily for in-person, on-campus courses taught on Main Campus in Tallahassee, Florida, with course time blocks during the morning, mid-day, and afternoon. A small number of evening courses may also be offered. Some online courses may be available for highly qualified candidates with experience teaching in the community college setting via Canvas LMS.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction, service, and support of college policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate commitment to student retention and success.
• Develop and assess student learning.
• Use technology and innovative approaches to enhance teaching and learning, including distance learning and alternative delivery systems.
• Support a diverse population of learners both inside and beyond the classroom.
• Work in a participatory and collegial setting.
• Facilitate classroom discussion and evaluate student performance in a timely manner with prompt feedback.
• Adhere to course guidelines and outcomes.
• Maintain records of student attendance, involvement, and progress.
• Be responsive and maintain frequent communication with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
• Meet teaching deadlines (e.g., attendance, grading) and work with students on their response to assignments in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in the specific teaching discipline (e.g., History, Psychology) or a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the specified discipline (covering the topic of the course to be taught).
• Teaching experience, preferably within a community college setting.
• Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) for which instruction is responsible.
• Knowledge and understanding of effective communication, instruction, and the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
• Knowledge of principles of curriculum development.
• Computer literacy and ability to navigate in a Windows environment.
• Knowledge and ability to use and navigate the Canvas Learning Management System.
• Ability to interact with students in group and one-on-one situations.

All adjunct positions are part-time, temporary assignments (for no more than one semester at a time) dependent upon student enrollment and the instructional needs of the College. A Level II background check and drug screen may be required for employment.
