Salary Range: $72,665 - $116,991

Purpose of Classification

Performs professional-level accounting, budgeting, and related administrative duties in managing the finances of an assigned department or division.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves or processes employee concerns, problems, and disciplinary actions; completes or assists with performance appraisals; trains staff on operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; ensures staff have necessary resources; monitors work progress and inspects completed work; provides technical expertise for complex or problem situations; reports progress and activity to management.
  • Manages financial activities, including monitoring budgets, revenues, expenditures, and financial performance; prepares budgets for assigned areas; interprets financial policies, legislation, and accounting principles; researches budget errors and recommends corrective actions; plans for future financial needs and funding alternatives.
  • Manages the procurement process in compliance with County purchasing policies; monitors employee use of purchasing cards and related transactions; maintains documentation.
  • Reviews financial transactions for proper account classification, accuracy, and fund availability; verifies and approves invoices for payment; maintains related documentation.
  • Monitors grant contracts and grant-funded projects; ensures compliance with grant requirements and regulations; reviews and approves grant fund reimbursements and payments; maintains documentation.
  • Prepares, maintains, and submits financial reports and records as required by local, state, or federal rules; analyzes and reviews month-end, quarterly, and yearly financial reports.
  • Analyzes proposed projects from a financial perspective, including funding sources and availability; coordinates project components; develops and implements project plans; monitors project progress and budget.
  • Responds to financial inquiries from departmental staff; assists external auditors with financial reviews; conducts internal audits as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related field, including lead or supervisory experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
