About the Role

Assist individuals served and staff in the management of individual’s finances through the application of State and Federal Regulations as well as KCARC’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals served and staff to facilitate their involvement in all financial matters as outlined in their individual plan.
  • Collaborate with program staff to include a savings goal for each individual served and ensure appropriate use and replenishment of these savings, including funds drawn from the Arc Trusts.
  • Protect all benefits of the individual served by maintaining their funds below state and federal limits as prescribed by KCARC policy.
  • Work with program services to establish a burial trust for any individual who wants one.
  • Seek all available benefits for each individual served, including Social Security, SSDI, Food Stamps, and utility assistance programs. Provide required information to funding sources for benefit continuation.
  • Protect individuals' assets through proper insurance coverage.
  • Work with banks to streamline banking and bill-paying processes.
  • Maximize each individual’s resources by developing plans to ensure timely payment of debts and recording of income.
  • Maintain accurate and timely tracking of each individual’s financial condition using Quicken or another approved method, including accrual accounting for periodic income and expenses.
  • Maintain organized files for each individual served to allow quick and accurate access to financial information for any given time period.
  • Provide monthly financial reports as required for the Individual Support Team.
  • Report any financial problems or concerns to the supervisor, including recommendations for corrections.
  • Prepare tax filings and other reports as required by outside sources.
  • Provide backup telephone support.
  • Compile and prepare financial files for internal or external audits.
  • Conduct annual audits of all individuals served.
  • Maintain financial training for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and management.
  • Send Guardian reports monthly as requested.
  • Prepare Rep Payee reports through Social Security.
  • Perform all other duties as deemed necessary.

Requirements

  • Possess the ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet department demands.
  • Maintain good hygiene.
  • Possess excellent research and writing skills.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Use tact and empathy when dealing with people of varied backgrounds.
  • Establish effective working relationships.
  • Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Be proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office products.
  • Accept responsibility and demonstrate leadership.
  • Multitask effectively in a sometimes fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Three years of bookkeeping experience and/or equivalent training preferred.
