Regular, full-time exempt position within the Center for Academic and Career Success, reporting to the Dean of Curriculum.
About the Role
The First-Year Experience Coordinator optimizes the academic success of first-year students from orientation through the completion of two semesters of college. This role supports the mission of developing career-ready graduates by coaching for academic success to increase persistence, retention, and progression to the second year.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the First Year Experience (FYE) program, including planning, organizing, and delivering key components such as orientation, welcome week, and year-long programming to increase student persistence and success.
- Collaborate with other units for orientation and welcome week; execute independent or cross-departmental programming as needed.
- Provide academic coaching to students following prescribed best practices, including group coaching, events, and activities in collaboration with other offices.
- Teach the three-credit First Year Seminar (FYS) each fall and spring semester.
- Work in partnership with offices and employees within and outside the Center for Academic and Career Success (CACS) to support student academic success.
- Serve on assigned committees.
- Collect and analyze data to inform decisions and submit reports, including:
- Annual First Year Experience report by September 1st.
- Orientation and welcome week reports.
- Peer mentor program report.
- Meet regularly with leadership to communicate progress, adhere to best practices, and engage in professional development.
- Participate in college-wide software/technology implementation and campus events such as Open House, Career Fair, Orientation, and Welcome Week.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Curriculum or designee.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- Three or more years of experience in an academic coaching position or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to helping at-risk and underprepared students succeed in an educational setting.
- Proficiency in using online databases, Microsoft Office Suite, and AI tools.
- Experience in collecting, organizing, and presenting data via reports and presentations.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate student meeting records and required reports.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the College’s academic and career support services to the campus community and designated student populations.
- Highly developed customer service skills.
- Willingness to adapt to the varied workload of a small college in a team atmosphere.
- Ability to work some weekends or evenings as needed.
- Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to foster a safe and inclusive campus community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education or related fields (e.g., academic counseling, college student personnel administration, higher education, social work).
- Expertise in database creation and manipulation, advanced Microsoft Office applications, and online web-based tools such as Google Docs.
Pay
Annual salary range: $62,353.20 – $65,625.00.
