First Year Experience Coordinator
About the role
The First Year Experience (FYE) Coordinator reports directly to the TRIO Director of Student Support Services and serves to create, support, and facilitate student engagement for our TRIO SSS and SSS STEM first-year students.
Responsibilities
Oversee TRIO SSS and SSS STEM program communication and social media. This includes the supervision of the Communication Intern and overseeing the TRIO SSS and SSS STEM communication mediums such as the TRIO SSS newsletter, program flyers, and social media platforms.
Develop and implement social media strategies, create content, manage social media accounts, and analyze performance metrics.
Aid in social media tasks, such as scheduling posts, researching trends, and engaging with followers.
Produce engaging content for various platforms, including graphics, videos, and written posts for the program.
Assist the Director of TRIO SSS and SSS STEM with website management and upkeep.
Support the program objectives of the TRIO SSS/SSS STEM Grant by assisting to recruit eligible students into the program and obtain documentation to verify program eligibility.
Be an advocate for first-generation and limited-income students by serving on campus committees and participating in campus events and activities that support our TRIO SSS/SSS STEM students.
Recruits, hires, and manages the First-Year Experience Student Leaders and the Student Ambassadors to include supervisory responsibilities for the following:
- Making sure FYE Student Leaders, Intern, and Student Ambassadors are aware of campus resources and make proper referrals to other service providers on campus such as the Center for Academic Resources, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Accounts, Counseling Center, Reading/Study Center, Disability Services, Project Success, etc.
- Provide weekly training and provide student development opportunities to include FERPA training, understanding UW Oshkosh Student Code of Conduct, and getting Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certified.
- Responsible for weekly check in meetings and providing supervision and accountability for job duties and semester performance evaluations.
- Trains and provides guidance in handling student situations and concerns in accordance with established institutional policies and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, human services, or related field.
- Experience working with educational programs specifically with marginalized, underrepresented student populations.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience in an educational setting.
- Experience with understanding social media platforms and creating media content.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and off-campus constituents.
- Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, or a related field.
- Experience supporting the needs of first-generation, income eligible students.
- Experience with curriculum development using a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with Student Support Services (SSS) and/or other TRIO programs.
