About the Role
Serve as an external reader of freshman applications during the application review phase of the admissions cycle for Undergraduate Admissions. This position is 100% remote, with the exception of 1-day onsite training.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive evaluation of freshman applications.
- Apply holistic evaluation process to assess student academic records against UC eligibility requirements and interpret policies.
- Differentiate between highly competitive and often very similar applications using problem solving, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Manage time effectively to complete assigned reading workload by required deadlines with little direct supervision.
Requirements
- Ability to learn holistic evaluation process.
- Analytical skills to evaluate student academic records and interpret policies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Time management skills to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Problem solving, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
Pay
$2.90 per application evaluated, plus a $500 flat fee for training. Salary is paid monthly.
Schedule
- 25% time commitment (approximately 10 hours per week).
- Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Remote worksite with 1-day onsite training.

Physical and Mental Demands
- Frequent sitting (3 to 6 hours) and keyboard use/repetitive motion (3 to 6 hours).
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead (up to 3 hours).
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of up to 25 lbs (up to 3 hours).
- Frequent sustained attention, concentration, complex problem solving, organization, prioritization, communication, and numerical skills (3 to 6 hours).
- Frequent interaction, customer/patient contact, and handling of multiple concurrent tasks (3 to 6 hours).
Work Environment
- 100% remote position, with work performed from home or existing office space.
- Must meet established computer requirements for remote access to the evaluation process.
