Firefighter II

About the role

Under general supervision controls and extinguishes fires, protects life and property, and maintains all fire equipment. Will be stationed at Van Wyck FD as day shift response. Shift hours and days for duty may change as the service moves forward giving more 7 day per week coverage for the district.

Responsibilities

• Receives and responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls performing the necessary functions and operations to efficiently handle any fireground situation.
• Performs fire inspections and pre-fire planning as directed.
• Conducts minor vehicle and equipment maintenance and other related tasks.
• Reports to the Lancaster County Fire Rescue Director through the established chain of command.

Qualifications

• High School graduate.
• Successful completion of firefighter training courses equivalent to South Carolina Fire Academy courses 1152, 2722, NFPA Firefighter I and II.
• Lancaster County Blood Borne Pathogen training.
• Emergency Vehicle Driver Training.
• First aid with Medical First Responder required within the first year.
• Hazmat Technician required within the first year of employment.
• Pump operations required.
• Must possess a minimum Class E South Carolina Driver’s License or CDL with tanker endorsement.
• At least two years’ experience in active fire service participation preferred.
• Combinations of education, training, service, and volunteer service will be taken into consideration.
