About the role

Ingalls firefighters work a 24/48-hour firefighter schedule. They respond to medical, fire, hazmat, and rescue emergencies as team members or leaders, performing necessary functions as directed. Responsibilities include operating at great heights and in confined spaces with Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) conditions, inspecting and operating emergency response equipment, and maintaining facility and shipboard fire protection systems. Firefighters provide industrial medical care and respirator fit testing, and may work additional overtime to maintain proper manning levels or support special assignments.

Candidates must pass a pre-hire medical physical and an annual firefighter medical physical. Firefighters will cross-train to assist safety, medical, and environmental departments and participate in required training to maintain certifications or improve capabilities. Within 90 days of starting, basic first aid training is required. If not already an EMT, candidates must obtain National Registry EMT certification within 18 months to retain the position. Successful completion of provided fire, rescue, hazmat, and inspection training is mandatory.

Requirements

• NREMT-B certification
• Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

Candidates with the following preferred qualifications will receive priority consideration:

• At least 5 years of experience as a Certified 1001 Firefighter
• Prior industrial or shipboard fire training experience
• Working knowledge of shipboard or facility fire protection systems
• Prior fire, safety, or EMS experience
