For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built, and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. As the largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we are currently building four classes of ships and have pioneered advanced, high-capability ships for the surface fleet.

About the role

Ingalls firefighters work a 24/48-hour firefighter schedule. They respond to medical, fire, hazmat, and rescue emergencies as team members or leaders, performing appropriate functions as directed or needed. Firefighters must be able to operate at great heights and in confined spaces with Immediately Dangerous to Life or Health (IDLH) conditions.

  • Operate and inspect emergency response equipment.
  • Inspect and outfit facility and shipboard fire protection equipment.
  • Provide industrial medical care and respirator fit testing as needed.
  • Work additional overtime as required to maintain proper manning levels and support special assignments.
  • Pass a pre-hire medical physical and an annual firefighter medical physical.
  • Cross-train to assist safety, medical, and environmental departments in preparation for emergencies and future growth.
  • Participate in required training to maintain current certifications or improve capabilities.

Required training includes:

  • Basic first aid training within 90 days of starting the position.
  • Obtain National Registry EMT certification within 18 months of start date if not already certified (required to retain the Firefighter position).
  • Successfully complete any provided fire, rescue, hazmat, and inspection training.

Requirements

  • Must have NREMT-B certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Candidates with the following preferred qualifications will receive priority consideration:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Certified 1001 Firefighter.
  • Prior industrial or shipboard fire training experience.
  • Working knowledge of shipboard or facility fire protection systems.
  • Prior fire, safety, or EMS experience.

Schedule

  • 24/48-hour firefighter schedule (24 hours on, 48 hours off).
