FIREFIGHTER

The City of Laurel, Mississippi will be conducting a Civil Service Examination for the position of Entry-Level Firefighter on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. Interested individuals must submit an application and sign-up by Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. to participate.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age
• Valid MS driver's license
• High school diploma or GED
• U.S. Citizen and registered voter in the county where residing
• Able to pass a background check
• Able to pass Entry-level Firefighter Civil Service Examination
• Able to attend and successfully complete MS State Fire Academy

Pay

• Beginning Salary: $44,688.54 annually + benefits
• Additional Earning Potential: 11 Paid Holidays (88 hours) per year at an hourly rate of $16.21; 52 Hours overtime possible per year at $24.32 overtime rate per hour
