About the role
The Fire Suppression Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, servicing, and repairing fire extinguishers, emergency exit lights, and pre-engineered suppression systems, including detection and control systems.
Responsibilities
- Use required tools and test equipment to repair or replace fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems, and detection & control systems components.
- Show comprehensive knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems such as fire extinguishers, pre-engineered suppression systems, and detection & control systems.
- Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.
- Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and detection & control systems.
- Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
- Track work orders using Field Service Lightning.
- Complete documentation on work orders.
- Follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
- Understand and comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements.
- Attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay updated on latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred with state or required certification.
- 2 years of Fire Life Safety Industry experience specifically within Fire Suppression.
- 2 years of professional computer skills.
- Effective communication skills, including reading, writing, and communicating in English with employees and customers.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements.
- Able to travel 90% of the time.
Qualifications
- Physical Requirements: Bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time, see in color, close and far distances, adjust focus, balance, crouch, drive, lift over 50 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, work at heights, work outside, exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
- Work Environment: Regularly work outside, exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Occasionally work indoors in an office setting, work alone, and with others. Must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies while visiting locations.
