Fire Suppression Technician

About the role

The Fire Suppression Technician installs, inspects, services, and repairs fire extinguishers, emergency exit lights, and pre-engineered suppression systems—including associated detection and control systems—with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Use tools and test equipment (power machines, groovers, cutters, band saws, lifts, etc.) to repair or replace fire-extinguisher, pre-engineered-system, and detection & control-system components.
• Maintain comprehensive working knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems (all types of fire extinguishers, pre-engineered suppression systems, and detection & control systems).
• Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.
• Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and detection & control systems.
• Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
• Arrive punctually at work locations and complete scheduled projects on time.
• Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials, time on job, and complete documentation.
• Follow Summit Fire & Security’s safety program, SDS book, hazardous-communication program, policies, and procedures; participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
• Know the location of all safety documentation on each project.
• Maintain company-provided vehicle in clean, road-ready condition per company policies.
• Attend periodic seminars or training sessions to stay current on technology, codes, and standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• State or other required certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the fire-life-safety industry, specifically within fire suppression.
• 2 years of professional computer skills.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with employees and customers.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Must pass Summit Fire & Security’s drug and alcohol screening and background check; may include customer-specific requirements.
• Must be able to travel 90 % of the time.

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequently bend, ascend/descend ladders and stairs, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, reach above/below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods.
• Occasionally balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift over 50 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
• Must be able to see in color, at close and far distances, peripherally, with depth perception, and adjust focus.
• Regularly work outdoors exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
• Occasionally work indoors in an office setting, alone or with others.
• Consistently wear required personal protective equipment per company safety policies.
