About the role
The role of Fire Sprinkler Inspector at State Systems, Inc. is crucial in ensuring the safety and reliability of fire protection systems. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and adherence to NFPA standards and company procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled field inspections of fire sprinkler and fire suppression systems.
- Inspect wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and foam systems for compliance and functionality.
- Trip, observe, and reset dry valves; record pressures and note deficiencies.
- Execute water flow tests and main drain tests on all risers.
- Exercise, lubricate, and maintain fire sprinkler valves.
- Verify monitoring station communication on supervised systems.
- Complete system tests to ensure devices operate properly.
- Finalize and submit inspection reports; discuss deficiencies and resolutions with customers.
- Ensure all work meets NFPA, AHJ, and company standards.
- Collaborate within a team of inspectors to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and learn.
- Operate mobile devices (tablet/PDA) to record inspection data and generate reports.
- Communicate effectively with customers and team members.
- Maintain punctuality, professionalism, and safety standards.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- NICET Level I certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems or 2+ years equivalent experience.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of NFPA standards and fire sprinkler inspection procedures.
- Ability to inspect and test fire pumps (diesel and electric).
- Experience inspecting foam systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Backflow certification.
- 3–5 years of fire sprinkler experience.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs. regularly, up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Push and pull objects greater than 40 lbs. as needed.
- Safely climb ladders and reach heights of at least 24 ft.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and manual dexterity required.
- Comfortable working at elevated heights (>26 ft.) and in various weather conditions.
