Fire Service Technician

About the role

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, seeks a skilled technician to join its service team. The role involves receiving service calls from the Service Resource Center, diagnosing and repairing electronic fire alarm systems and other building system products.

Responsibilities

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including describing equipment/system malfunctions.
• Contact customer representatives to ascertain equipment/system issues.
• Diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
• Provide the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service-related items.
• Communicate effectively with district staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding using communication devices like smart phones and laptops.
• Obtain customer signatures upon completion of service call assignments.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
• Train or mentor others on the service team.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities are running efficiently, including upselling opportunities.
• Support facility operations by providing quotes to address recommendations and solutions.

Requirements

• 2+ years documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
• Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
• Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyser, and commissioning devices.
• Ability to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
• Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
• Able to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
• Overnight travel may be required.
• Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
• Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely responses to customer needs.
• Able to adhere to, implement, and always follow safety guidelines and procedures.
• Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
• Possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
• Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
• Retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.

Preferred

• NICET Level II certification.
