About the Role
Serve as a Fire Protection Inspector at Fort Carson, where the degree of fire expectancy, complexity, severity, and difficulty is high.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an information program and secure client involvement in fire prevention, detection, and suppression.
- Determine measures to reduce or eliminate the potential for fire or explosion.
- Inspect and correct deficiencies in a variety of fixed fire protection systems.
- Document inspections and provide detailed, comprehensive reports.
- Perform fire investigations to determine origin and cause within the area of responsibility.
- Develop material and provide situational and classroom training for installation fire prevention activities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examinations in accordance with DoDM 6055.06.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs; subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Designated as Mission Essential; required to report to work during severe weather or emergencies.
- Must wear prescribed uniform and personal protective equipment while on duty.
- Work 60 hours per week (120 hours bi-weekly), including at least one 24-hour shift, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License to operate vehicles.
- Participate in and meet the standards of the DoD Firefighter Physical Fitness Program.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- One-year probationary period unless previously met requirements in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Must obtain and maintain Fire certification as a Public Fire and Life Safety Educator within 52 weeks.
Qualifications
Open to U.S. Citizens. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, including:
- Experience in detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards and controlling hazardous materials incidents.
- Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.
Applicants must also possess the following certifications (IFSAC/PROBOARD) at time of application:
- Fire Instructor I
- Fire Inspector I and II
- Firefighter I and II
- Airport Firefighter
- Hazardous Material Awareness
- Hazardous Material Operations
Certifications must be issued by a State or National Registry in accordance with DoD Instruction 6055.6 and DoD Manual 6055.6M. (Copies must be attached with application.)
No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position.
