Fire Protection Inspector.

About the role

As a Fire Protection Inspector, you will perform comprehensive inspections of various buildings, high-hazard facilities, and operations to ensure compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, Army regulations, and local procedures.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project plans for new construction and facility alterations to evaluate the technical adequacy of fire protection and life safety features.
• Develop, coordinate, and conduct fire safety education, prevention training courses, and evacuation drills for military personnel, civilian employees, schools, and specialized facility staff.
• Identify and develop mitigation plans for hazards involving specialized equipment, flammable materials, explosives, and complex electronic systems, utilizing advanced or innovative hazard isolation methods.
• Respond to hazardous incidents and emergencies under the Incident Command System, performing operational firefighting duties, apparatus maintenance, and basic medical care as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) during assigned shifts.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• Report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations in the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations.
• Use personal protective equipment provided by the employer and wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
• Work shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations, with a work schedule of 120 hours per pay period.
• Work planned and unscheduled overtime as required.
• Provide mutual aid support to local fire departments as required.
• Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Conform to the requirements set-forth in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1500, Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety Program.
• Participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations.

• One year of specialized experience which includes:
  • Implementing fire protection and prevention strategies or programs
  • Providing training to personnel in fire protection and prevention
  • Detecting, reducing, and/or eliminating potential fire hazards
• Possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certification, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M:
  • Fire Inspector I & II
  • Fire Instructor I
  • Hazardous Material Operations
  • Firefighter I & II
  • Firefighting and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic or higher) certification from the state of New York or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)

Pay

Estimated annual pay range based on 60-hour workweek is $94,800-123,276. Salary based on 120 hour work schedule.

Schedule

Work schedule of 120 hours per pay period, with four 9 hour days and one 24 hour shift. Shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
