About the role

Serve as a Fire Protection Inspector at Aberdeen Proving Ground, a large installation with a high degree of fire severity and expectancy.

Responsibilities

  • Performs weekly fire inspections of areas having a high fire expectancy.
    • Inspection sites include high hazard facilities, shops, warehouses, offices, living quarters, medical facilities, labs, airfields, computer labs, etc.
    • Conducts education programs on the prevention, detection and suppression of fires to both the local and installation community.
    • Conducts fire inspections to identify, reduce or eliminate the hazards that cause fires.
    • Assists with conducting and providing education programs on the prevention, detection of fires to other firefighters and/or community.
    • Reviews plans for new construction, alterations and/or modifications to buildings and/or structures to ensure compliance with fire codes and/or fire prevention practices.
    • Conducts inspections of fire extinguishers and alarm systems for proper operation, adequacy and compliance.

Requirements

  • Completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examinations.
  • Completion of a background investigation.
  • Completion of a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing.
  • Wearing of the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
  • Working a 60-hour work week/120 hours per pay period and may be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Obtaining and maintaining a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
  • Participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 5% of the time.
  • Maintaining a functioning telephone at your residence to aid in contact during recall emergency situations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

  • US Citizens only.
  • Specialized experience as outlined in the qualifications section.
  • Certifications as outlined in the qualifications section.
  • Maximum Entry Age (MEA) of 37.
  • Maximum Reentry Age as determined by the agency.
  • No education qualification requirement.
  • Eligibility for benefits based on type of position held and whether the position is full-time, part-time or intermittent.
