About the role
Serve as a Fire Protection Inspector at Aberdeen Proving Ground, a large installation with a high degree of fire severity and expectancy.
Responsibilities
- Performs weekly fire inspections of areas having a high fire expectancy.
- Inspection sites include high hazard facilities, shops, warehouses, offices, living quarters, medical facilities, labs, airfields, computer labs, etc.
- Conducts education programs on the prevention, detection and suppression of fires to both the local and installation community.
- Conducts fire inspections to identify, reduce or eliminate the hazards that cause fires.
- Assists with conducting and providing education programs on the prevention, detection of fires to other firefighters and/or community.
- Reviews plans for new construction, alterations and/or modifications to buildings and/or structures to ensure compliance with fire codes and/or fire prevention practices.
- Conducts inspections of fire extinguishers and alarm systems for proper operation, adequacy and compliance.
Requirements
- Completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examinations.
- Completion of a background investigation.
- Completion of a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing.
- Wearing of the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
- Working a 60-hour work week/120 hours per pay period and may be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Obtaining and maintaining a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
- Participation in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 5% of the time.
- Maintaining a functioning telephone at your residence to aid in contact during recall emergency situations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

- Specialized experience as outlined in the qualifications section.
- Certifications as outlined in the qualifications section.
- Maximum Entry Age (MEA) of 37.
- Maximum Reentry Age as determined by the agency.
- No education qualification requirement.
- Eligibility for benefits based on type of position held and whether the position is full-time, part-time or intermittent.
