About the Role

Performs specialized field and office work in fire prevention with responsibility for enforcement of fire safety codes, laws, and ordinances, including inspection of commercial buildings to ensure compliance. Initiative and judgment must be exercised to recognize fire hazards and acquire code compliance. Field work exposes employee to varying weather conditions, chemicals, noxious fumes, insects, heights, and confined areas. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and is reviewed through daily conferences.

Pay

  • Fire Prevention Inspector I: $26.22–$33.432 per hour
  • Fire Prevention Inspector II: $27.70–$35.315 per hour
  • Fire Prevention Inspector III: $29.41–$37.505 per hour

This is a full-time contract position with the same benefits as regular full-time. Most contracts are renewable for terms of one year.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
  • State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification from the Division of State Fire Marshal (must possess and maintain)
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must pass a background check, including a polygraph

Qualifications

  • Fire Prevention Inspector I: Six months of experience in fire inspection, fire prevention, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Fire Prevention Inspector II: Two years of experience in fire inspection or fire prevention; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
  • Fire Prevention Inspector III: Four or more years of experience in fire inspection or fire prevention; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience may be substituted: two years of direct experience for an associate degree; four years for a bachelor’s degree; six years for a master’s degree; or nine years for a doctoral degree.
