Fire Detection Service Technician

About the role

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, seeks a skilled technician to join its team. This position involves troubleshooting and repairing installed systems, including low voltage electrical systems like fire/life safety, access control, nurse call, and paging systems.

Responsibilities

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, diagnose equipment/system malfunctions, and contact customer representatives.
• Diagnose and repair electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
• Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, and bulletins for repairs.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as smart phones and laptop computers.
• Obtain customer signatures upon completed service call assignments.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
• Train or mentor others on the service team.
• Provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service, acting as a trusted advisor to customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

How You Will Do It

This skilled position involves programming fire alarm, security, and access control system panels. Experience with CCTV and IT/IP networks is a plus. Complete and submit all required task-related, activity, productivity, and other documentation in a timely manner. On-call and after-hours work required on occasion at customer need. Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities. Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
• Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
• Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
• A High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent written/verbal communication and outstanding customer service skills.
• Ability to carry and move equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
• Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
• Flexible work schedule including weekends to meet customer requirements.
• Valid driver's license and driving record meeting company requirements.
• Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.
• Adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
• Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and ability to learn quickly.

Preferred

• NICET Level II certification.

Pay and Benefits

Hiring hourly range: $28.70 - $39.47 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
