Fire Assay Operations Lead - Sparks, NV

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Fire Assay Operations Lead oversees the Fire Assay floor team and coordinates the processing of customer samples by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices. Work conditions include medium to heavy work (must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs for 10 feet), exposure to chemical hazards, controlled heat sources, and lead. Light computer work involving sedentary and repetitive tasks is also required.

Responsibilities

• Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures, and ISO standards applicable to the Fire Assay Supervisor position.
• Act in a safe and professional manner, wearing appropriate attire including required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Carry out Fire Assay floor procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.
• Ensure proper functioning of Fire Assay floor operations by:
  • Monitoring workflow and coordinating based on sample age and priority status.
  • Monitoring staffing levels and coordinating staff to meet sample volumes.
  • Training and orienting Fire Assay Technicians on Fire Assay floor procedures.
  • Overseeing staff to ensure adherence to Fire Assay floor procedures and other work instructions.
  • Monitoring the performance of equipment such as flux dispenser, mixer, fusion, and cupellation furnaces.
  • Maintaining an adequate inventory of consumable supplies and chemicals.
  • Monitoring the quality of consumables and chemicals.
  • Practicing good housekeeping.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
• Communicate general laboratory issues to the Operations Manager as appropriate.
• Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures, unsafe condition(s), non-conforming work, customer samples, or test data to the Operations Manager.
• Submit to testing for lead exposure on a regular basis.
• Participate actively in quality incident investigations.
