About the role
Convergint is seeking a full-time Fire Alarm Technician to join their dynamic team. The role involves installing, programming, testing, repairing, and servicing various systems and equipment, including security, fire alarm & life safety, and building automation.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of systems and equipment.
- Provide technical support and training to customers.
- Understand and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and schematics.
- Repair equipment using knowledge of electronics and standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
- Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
- Write routine programs for systems.
- Act as "our customer's best service provider" at all times.
- Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems.
- Refers more complex issues to higher level colleagues.
- Executes many technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets.
- Identifies potential project risks and develops strategies to minimize impact.
- Works with Fire Alarm Designer to ensure fire alarm system meets all relevant codes and standards.
- Assists in the overall coordination of specific projects and recommends changes to improve customer satisfaction.
- Performs other duties as requested or required.
Requirements
- Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non-technical audience.
- Willingness to learn technical skills and/or experience related to fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems.
- To be a self-starter and work well with little supervision.
- Understanding of electronics, including Ohm’s law, resistor color code, and relay logic for control of third-party equipment.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g., works with a variety of hand and power tools).
- Expert level programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning of complex Edwards fire alarm systems or equivalent.
- Driven to achieve necessary certifications/licensing related to products, industry, and city/state.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Possess NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems.
- Possess low voltage electrical license as required by local/state authority.
- Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis. Minimal overnight travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience.
- Licenses & Certifications: Local/State Electrical License, NICET Level II – Fire Alarm Systems.
- Preferred Experience: Associate degree in Electronics or related field, including equivalent military experience, 6 or more years relevant field service, EST4 Certification.
