Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate finishing trades, including plastering, joinery, painting, tiling and other specialist finishing works, ensuring work is carried out to the required standard and sequence.
- Plan and programme finishing activities in conjunction with the site manager and subcontractors to achieve milestones and maintain flow to follow-on trades.
- Monitor quality standards on a daily basis, conduct inspections, identify defects and enforce rectification to ensure completed areas meet specifications and client requirements.
- Supervise and mentor finishing operatives, promoting best practice, productivity and a culture of continuous improvement on site.
- Manage subcontractor performance, review work scopes, issue instructions, and escalate non-conformance or programme risks to the site management team.
- Maintain accurate records of progress, labour and materials; produce daily reports, update snagging registers and support handover documentation.
- Co-ordinate with site management, clients and other trades to resolve interface issues, minimise delays and ensure safe access to areas requiring finishing works.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality and environmental procedures; conduct toolbox talks, monitor PPE use and take appropriate action to address unsafe practices.
- Implement and maintain quality control checks, attend snagging inspections and support the close-out of defects prior to practical completion.
- Contribute to materials procurement and stock control for finishing activities, reporting shortages or defects to the site team promptly.
- Provide input to site meetings, prepare minutes where required and support continuous improvement initiatives related to finishing processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience supervising finishing trades on construction projects, ideally with a main contractor, developer or fit-out specialist.
- Strong technical knowledge of finishing materials, application methods and workmanship standards for plastering, painting, joinery, tiling and related trades.
- Experience managing subcontractors and multi-trade interfaces, with the ability to prioritise work and drive programmes to completion.
- Good understanding of quality control procedures, snagging processes and handover documentation requirements.
- Sound knowledge of health & safety legislation and site safety practices; CSCS or equivalent site qualification is desirable.
- Organised and methodical with effective record-keeping skills; competent user of mobile/site reporting tools and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead teams, liaise with clients and collaborate with other site stakeholders.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet programme and quality targets.
