Financial Manager I
About the Role
The Vermont Department of Taxes is seeking a Financial Manager I to join the Finance Division. This role supports the state by ensuring accurate financial operations and contributing to initiatives that preserve the environment, build vibrant communities, and strengthen families. Responsibilities
- Reviews revenue reports and disbursement documents for anomalies and to ensure accuracy.
- Reviews daily and monthly reconciliations, ensuring that the Department's bank accounts balance to internal systems.
- Performs ledger research to assist with both expense and revenue queries.
- Compiles and analyzes data to support Department initiatives.
- Assists with preparation of reports during the Department's annual audit.
About the Finance Division
The Finance Division monitors all revenues and receivables activity at the Department, including daily reconciliations between the bank and the accounting systems. The division also:
- Prints refund checks and records disbursements.
- Reconciles the revenue journal with the state's VISION general ledger.
- Oversees the Department's annual audit.
- Hosts the Department's mail processing and scanning team, Business Office (handling contracts, purchasing, personnel support, building security, and budget preparation), and the Forms and Modernized E-File (MeF) Team.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a bachelor's degree in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 20 credit hours in accounting AND two (2) years or more of professional-level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, or related experience, including managing programs, funding sources, or staff.
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline AND four (4) years or more of professional-level experience as described above.
- Associate's degree AND six (6) years or more of professional-level experience as described above.
- High School diploma AND eight (8) years or more of professional-level experience as described above.
- One year as a Financial Administrator III with the State of Vermont.
- Certification as a CPA.
Preference may be given to applicants with supervisory or management experience. Some positions may require experience with the VISION system (the State of Vermont's PeopleSoft financial management system).
