Financial Counselor, Patient Access

About the role

Assist patients with financial concerns, including evaluating coverage options, providing counseling on financial responsibility, and developing payment plans.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients for healthcare coverage and financial assistance eligibility
• Counsel patients on financial responsibility and available assistance programs
• Assess and offer financial aid to inpatients prior to discharge
• Collaborate with departments to determine financial options for procedures
• Record data and prepare reports on outreach efforts
• Maximize revenue and minimize bad debt through workflow and technology
• Maintain a safe environment and comply with policies

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or higher
• At least 2 years of customer service experience in healthcare or related field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to travel locally and work weekday hours with occasional Saturday
• Must be 18 or older

Preferred Skills

• Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field
• Experience with electronic medical records and medical terminology
• Bilingual in English & Spanish
• Strong communication, customer service, and ability to work in fast-paced environments
