About the role
We are searching for a full-time Financial Counselor to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Generate clean bills for primary, secondary and tertiary payers
- Maximize upfront collections and minimize exposure of accounts at risk
- Ensure clean account receivable balances
- Maximize self-pay collections
- Effectively manage the interdepartmental workflow within the revenue cycle
- Interview patients and relatives to obtain necessary personal and financial information for admission/registration
- Verify insurance benefits of the patient and document the verification process in the system
- Enter complete and accurate documentation into the system describing all patient-related admitting/registration activities
- Implement policies and procedures for admission/registration of all patients
- Reverify eligibility when applicable and ensure daily census accuracy
- Complete all required forms for admission/registration of a patient and ensure all required documentation is given to the patient and/or patient's family
- Uphold the Organization's ethics and customer service standards
- Obtain pre-authorization or referrals required for specific medical services or procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Education: High School degree or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred
- Experience: Three to five years of admitting and/or Financial Counseling experience preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Basic PC skills including Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office programs; knowledge of governmental and managed care payer requirements; ability to exercise diplomacy and tact; excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills; cultural sensitivity; ability to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards; strong math and office procedures knowledge; ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision; ability to sit for extended periods of time; ability to communicate verbally and type accurately
Qualifications
- Basic PC skills including Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office programs
- Knowledge of governmental and managed care payer requirements
- Understanding of the data elements required to generate a clean bill
- Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; additional language abilities desirable
- Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
- Ability to remain seated at switchboard for long periods of time without significant discomfort or distress
- Ability to effectively interact with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic classes, those in crisis or resistant or negative toward organization
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, physical, and provide positive employment references
