Responsibilities
- Provides financial counseling to patients and families in accordance with facility policies.
- Assists patients and families with financial arrangements, including financial assistance from outside agencies for qualified patients.
- Creates and approves payment arrangements; reviews payment options and possible financial assistance (e.g., state and local agencies, indigent care).
- Reviews all patient self-pay accounts.
- Meets with patients and families to establish satisfactory payment agreements.
- Ensures patient demographic and insurance information is correct in the computer system.
- Documents all payment agreements in the computer database and sends payment confirmation letters to patients and families.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education in accounting or a related business field preferred.
- Completed medical terminology course preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in medical billing, collections, insurance, or coding required.
