About the role
This position provides face-to-face interaction with patients and/or their families regarding point-of-service collections, financial assistance programs, Medicaid eligibility and qualifications. It addresses patient direct inquiries/concerns about account balances, financial assistance, insurance information, payment arrangements, and other non-clinical related questions.
Responsibilities
- 40% – Interviews patients face-to-face for financial assistance programs, eligibility, and qualifications to ensure OhioHealth’s charity policy and procedures are followed and appropriately offered to all patients, regardless of ability to pay. Maintains integrity of all patients requesting assistance. Works with State of Ohio County Case Workers to apply, qualify, and verify eligibility of Medicaid participants.
- 20% – Visits face-to-face with patients for collection opportunities of Medicare deductible and inpatient commercial copays, directly affecting OhioHealth’s overall financial results.
- 20% – Calls and requests collections of med pay on all auto accidents. Provides all necessary detail and documentation to carriers to ensure prompt payment of available benefits to OhioHealth.
- 10% – On-site lead handling all face-to-face direct patient inquiries for non-clinical related issues, including irate and/or complaints.
- 5% – Works directly with outside eligibility vendor and is responsible for quality review of their work.
- 5% – Provides cost information to patients.
As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality, and efficiency in performing job duties.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED (Required).
- 3 to 5 years of equivalent experience.
- Analytical skills to read and understand instructions, and strong decision-making skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to visit patient rooms and walk 1 hour per day.
- Communication skills (verbal, written, telephone) necessary to explain policies or procedures, relay patient needs to appropriate personnel, and communicate with sensitivity and tact.
- Basic computer typing skills.
- Ability to follow the work of other staff members.
- Understanding of basic office machines (photocopier, fax, phone).
Schedule
Day shift, 40 scheduled weekly hours.
