About the role

Lead a team dedicated to helping uninsured and underinsured patients navigate financial assistance programs, secure healthcare coverage, and access the resources they need. This position drives operational excellence, builds partnerships across healthcare facilities, and directly impacts patient outcomes through compassionate patient advocacy and team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of Financial Counselors across multiple hospital locations through coaching, mentoring, and regular performance discussions.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, patient advocacy, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct daily huddles and team meetings focused on priorities, productivity, quality, and employee growth.
  • Recognize performance, celebrate successes, and create career development opportunities.
  • Oversee financial counseling activities for uninsured and underinsured patients, including Medicaid, charity care, and other financial assistance programs.
  • Serve as an escalation resource for complex patient situations and high-risk accounts.
  • Partner with hospital staff and community organizations to improve patient access to financial resources.
  • Monitor team productivity, quality, and performance metrics; analyze operational data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly performance reporting.
  • Manage staffing schedules, attendance, timecards, coverage planning, and workload distribution.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of performance gaps and implement corrective action plans.
  • Serve as a key liaison between Financial Counseling, Case Management, Clinical Teams, Medicaid Vendors, and community agencies.
  • Build strong relationships with client leadership and internal partners to support escalated patient concerns.
  • Collaborate with leadership to implement best practices and operational improvements across sites.
  • Participate in site visits and leadership rounding to support team engagement and service excellence.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, client requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor documentation quality and account activity for accuracy and compliance.
  • Recommend enhancements to workflows, training materials, job aids, and operational procedures.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives that improve both patient and business outcomes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare operations, patient financial services, revenue cycle, patient access, financial counseling, Medicaid enrollment, or a related healthcare setting.
  • Minimum 1 year of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing employees.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare technology platforms.
  • Ability to travel locally between assigned hospital facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Medicaid eligibility, Medicaid applications, and financial assistance programs.
  • Experience leading teams in Financial Counseling, Patient Access, Revenue Cycle, or Patient Financial Services.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience utilizing performance metrics to drive results.
  • Proven success leading process improvement initiatives.

Pay

Base pay range: $48,131.00 - $81,225.49 per year. Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
