Financial Capabilities Intern (Unpaid)
Scope of Work
The International Rescue Committee (IRC), working in the United States, welcomes newly arrived refugees and immigrants, supports their resettlement, and provides holistic services to help them build new lives in their communities. The Financial Capabilities intern will support the IRC's Financial Capabilities program in New Jersey.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one financial coaching for clients
- Conduct budgets and financial surveys with clients
- Track client notes and progress in a spreadsheet and on ETO software
- Communicate effectively in person and by phone
- Facilitate monthly literacy workshops for clients
- Accompany clients to bank appointments
- Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy
- Other related duties as assigned
Learning Objectives
- Intern will learn how to effectively manage financial educational and coaching programs
- Intern will learn how to provide direct services to immigrant populations across various backgrounds
- Intern will learn how to effectively case note client meetings and progress using ETO software
Requirements
- Volunteers must be based in the U.S.
- Interns must be based in the U.S. and must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within the last two years.
- Available for a minimum of 15 hours per week
- The ideal candidates will have prior experience in the field of personal financial management, preferably in a counseling or coaching role.
- Basic proficiency in digital literacy
- High school degree required
- Bilingual ability required: Spanish or Haitian Creole highly preferred, ability to speak Dari/Pashto, Arabic, or French also preferred
