About the role

The Financial Analyst, Senior plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity, accountability, and transparency of Lane County, one of Oregon's largest local governments. This is a highly technical position for an experienced governmental accountant who thrives on complex financial reporting, data analysis, and producing accurate, audit-ready financial information that supports sound decision-making and public trust.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of the County's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) while managing complex accounting activities throughout the fiscal year, including budget-to-actual reporting, modified and full accrual accounting, year-end close, and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to ensure financial information is accurate, compliant with governmental accounting standards, and presented in a way that informs County leadership, elected officials, auditors, and the public.
  • Combine deep knowledge of governmental accounting with exceptional analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex financial data, partner with internal and external auditors, develop meaningful reports, and translate technical accounting information into clear, concise reports for a variety of audiences.
  • Solve complex accounting challenges, maintain accuracy and attention to detail, and interpret and apply governmental accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Eight years of education and/or experience in finance, accounting, municipal budgets, or similar; or a combination sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • An advanced understanding of GAAP, governmental accounting, and GASB.
  • Experience with ACFR preparation or complex financial statement production.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and experience improving month-end close processes.
  • Ability to explain technical accounting concepts to non-technical staff.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset with demonstrated process redesign experience.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Training and Experience: Eight years of education and/or experience in finance, accounting, municipal budgets, or similar; or a combination sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Benefits

  • Health insurance coverage becomes effective the first of the month following your first 30-days as an eligible employee.
  • Medical/Rx/Vision - Lane County offers medical, prescription and vision exam coverage for you and your eligible dependents. The plan options and costs per month for 2026 are outlined below.
  • For eligible members of unions LCPOA, 626, Admin Pro, and AFSCME Physicians $1,700 for individual coverage and $3,400 for family coverage. For eligible members of unions AFSCME General, AFSCME Nurses, FOPPO, PAA, and non-represented employees $1,600 for individual coverage and $3,200 for family coverage. Those who complete the requirements to receive the Live Well Credit by November 30, 2026, will receive an additional contribution of $400 individual or $800 family, funded in 2027.
  • All eligible employees who complete a Health History Risk Assessment (HHRA), Biometric Screening, and Comprehensive Health Review (CHR) at the Live Well Center receive a $20 per month credit.
  • Dental - Lane County provides dental coverage for employees and their eligible dependents.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Lane County provides this counseling and concierge service to employees and members of their immediate households.
  • Fitness Center Membership - Lane County provides employees with a free membership to a local fitness center.
  • Retirement - Lane County pays for and enrolls employees in the Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP) and the Individual Account Program (IAP) following six full months of employment.
  • Disability - Lane County provides Long-Term Disability coverage. Lane County complies with all State and Federal disability laws for employee, family, parental and pregnancy leaves regulations.

  • Deferred Compensation Retirement Savings - Employees may enroll in a deferred compensation program 457(b) to save for retirement.
  • Vision - Eligible employees may purchase supplemental vision insurance.
  • Supplemental Life Insurance - Employees may purchase supplemental life insurance for themselves and their dependents/spouse.
  • Aflac - Optional employee-paid voluntary group coverage is available through Aflac.
  • Group Discounts - Group discounts may include homeowners and auto insurance, pet health insurance, credit union membership.

Pay

$80,953.60 - $110,801.60 Annually

Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm
