Financial Analyst II

About the Role

This position supports financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making processes within the university. The Financial Analyst II will develop models, analyze variances, create reports and dashboards, and provide strategic financial insights to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain budget models, including personnel, operating expenses, and projections.
• Support annual budget development and consolidation processes.
• Assist in evaluating incremental funding requests and new initiatives.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial forecasts.
• Analyze variances between actuals, budget, and forecast; identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Communicate findings clearly and partner with leadership to adjust projections based on operational changes.
• Develop and maintain recurring financial reports (FTE, PDA, HSCFCPA Expenses, etc.).
• Build dashboards to track key performance indicators and financial health.
• Ensure reporting is accurate, timely, and actionable; automate reporting processes where possible.
• Conduct ad hoc financial analysis to support leadership decisions.
• Evaluate financial impact of new programs, staffing changes, and operational initiatives.
• Provide scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis.
• Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Perform additional responsibilities as determined by departmental needs and supervisor direction.
• Assist with special projects, training initiatives, and process improvement efforts.
• Provide backup support for other team members during absences or high-volume periods.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with financial planning software (Hyperion, Adaptive Insights, or similar).
• Knowledge of university accounting principles and budget processes.
• Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
• 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting.
• Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
