About the role

Develops, interprets, and implements financial concepts for financial planning and control. This is a senior-level professional finance position working under very general supervision, independently responsible for an assigned function or program.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, interprets, and implements financial concepts for financial planning and control.
  • Performs technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance.
  • Gathers, analyzes, prepares, and summarizes recommendations for financial plans, trended future requirements, and operating forecasts.
  • Performs economic research and studies in areas such as rates of return, depreciations, working capital requirements, investment opportunities, investment performance, and impact of governmental requirements.
  • Carries out assignments that are typically straightforward in nature; selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks.
  • Collaborates with senior peers on projects and routinely provides work-group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff.
  • Serves as a technical resource or mentor to other employees.
  • Assists with analysis of distribution variances and payment issues; assists with processing of payments of invoices and prepares direct payment for invoices.
  • Updates logs on the Fiscal Drive, logs requisitions, and assigns to buyer; processes Blackline and journal entries upon request.
  • Responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Oversees and completes grant reporting for most grants issued to the City of Atlanta Police Department, submits all required paperwork and applications for renewal, and applies for new grants as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with current grants and keeps inventory of all items purchased with grant funds.
  • May lead or instruct less experienced workers in high-level or technical jobs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; three years of specific professional experience.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field with five years of financial experience.
  • Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of finance concepts and processes; strong understanding of the relationship of professional discipline with other organizations and functions.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting software, and databases; strong interpersonal communications and presentation skills.
  • Abilities: Apply professional knowledge with limited supervision; process numbers quickly and accurately; spot inconsistencies and troubleshoot or escalate issues; train others; build effective internal relationships.

Work Environment

Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

This position follows the City’s hybrid work schedule policy as assigned by the Department of Human Resources Commissioner and requires in-person work at City worksites/facilities at least four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day per week, based on eligibility, departmental needs, and supervisor approval. The hybrid schedule is subject to change to five days in-person work at any time.
