Financial Aid Officer
About the Role
The Financial Aid Officer (FAO) advises prospective and current students regarding financial aid options, including the availability of Title IV Programs. The FAO ensures students have access to all relevant information, guidelines, and eligibility requirements, and supports them in applying for available financial aid. The FAO also works with the Campus President to improve the overall quality and environment of the Financial Aid Department.
Responsibilities
- Advise incoming, continuing, and re-entry students on the availability of Title IV funds and resources to cover educational costs.
- Answer student questions regarding completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Direct Loan Entrance/Exit Counseling.
- Complete verification on all applications selected by the Department of Education.
- Resolve conflicting information identified between financial aid documents and other student file documents.
- Conduct financial aid estimates for students interested in enrollment.
- Submit student files for Campus Compliance Specialist review in a timely manner, maintaining a low error rate.
- Communicate effectively with admissions personnel to ensure future enrollments have appropriate documentation for packaging.
- Ensure files are uploaded into the CampusVue operating system.
- Provide updates to the Campus President on students who have not submitted required documentation for Title IV funding.
- Advise students on Institutional Payment Plans (IPP) and facilitate completion of the IPP process where appropriate.
- Effectively use and track activities in CampusVue.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (GED acceptable) from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- 1 year of experience in a customer service-related field.
- Ability to multitask while maintaining organization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must not be in default on any federal student loan.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- 1 year of prior experience in Financial Aid.
- Experience with CampusVue.
