Eligibility Requirements

  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the current award year
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress standards
  • Enroll at least half-time (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate) per semester
  • Have a federal need of at least $2,000
  • Submit all requested financial aid documentation from your To-Do-List by the due date
  • Have an official award notification from the Financial Aid Office
  • Be a U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or permanent resident

About the Role

The Federal Work-Study Student Assistant provides administrative, outreach, and communications support to the Scholarship Division within the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. This position assists with scholarship programming, campus events, student engagement activities, office operations, and communications to help increase student awareness of scholarship opportunities and services. The student will receive training on general financial aid and scholarship policies and procedures to effectively assist students and provide appropriate referrals to professional staff.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
  • Communicate with guests via verbal, written, and electronic correspondence (e.g., answering phones, sending emails, assisting students with general questions via front counter)
  • Assist with clerical functions for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (e.g., file paperwork, maintain an organized working environment, make deliveries around campus, distribute flyers, handle phones, scanning, maintain FERPA standards)
  • Assist with Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships outreach and events (e.g., job fairs, tabling, and other events; advance notice will be provided)
  • Create social media content
  • Perform other clerical duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work, follow oral instructions, work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students
  • Effective communication with all levels
  • Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student

Requirements

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
  • Enrolled in at least half-time units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Possess a Social Security Card for payroll purposes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse student populations
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Workspace, and social media platforms
  • Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to lift and transport outreach materials (up to 20 pounds) for campus events

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $16.90 per hour. Compensation considers internal equity and experience.

Schedule

  • Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
  • Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm)

This is a part-time, temporary, seasonal, on-campus position. Student employees are not eligible to telecommute.
