About the role

Reporting to a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Financial Aid Coordinator is an integral member of a dynamic, service-oriented, and student-centered Undergraduate Financial Aid team. This position supports Yale's student recruitment and retention efforts by delivering exceptional service to students, families, and campus partners. The Financial Aid Coordinator provides high-level administrative and operational support for Undergraduate Financial Aid, ensuring the efficient execution of departmental processes and initiatives. The role also serves as a key resource for responding to service-related inquiries and coordinating a wide range of administrative functions with professionalism, accuracy, and a strong commitment to customer service.

This is a fully on-campus position; remote work is not available.

Responsibilities

  • Supports customer service operations by collaborating with management and administrative staff to resolve processing-related issues and ensure the timely and accurate resolution of student inquiries.
  • Coordinates and oversees a variety of administrative processes and operational functions for Undergraduate Financial Aid, including office communications, departmental initiatives, technology coordination, and student employee supervision.
  • Serves as the primary contact for designated departmental programs and processes, including international tax scholarship processing, First-Year Scholars at Yale (FSY), and Yale Club of New Haven.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service to students, families, and campus partners by providing comprehensive information regarding Undergraduate Financial Aid, billing, student employment, and loan programs through in-person, phone, and email communications.
  • Researches, evaluates, and resolves complex inquiries by exercising sound judgment, resourcefulness, and discretion while ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, and institutional guidelines.
  • Coordinates departmental communications, including notifications, electronic mailbox management, suggests website updates, and other outreach efforts to support office operations and student engagement.
  • Coordinates departmental technology needs, including hardware requests, inventory management, and related operational support, and assists with the onboarding of new staff members.
  • Provides advice and information to students on short and long-term educational and career goals and on available University resources such as financial aid, fellowships, career services, and educational programs.
  • Adapts and implements new policies and processes regarding specific areas of specialty; develops, recommends, and implements solutions and corrections to policies and processes.
  • Assists in designing, recommending, and implementing computer programs and systems for admissions, registration, career services, and financial aid.
  • Processes financial and other transactions, tracks data, generates and analyzes reports.
  • Assists in the design and development of student publications, communications, and program websites.
  • Ensures all student services and student support functions conform to University policies and guidelines.
  • Monitors, maintains, and ensures accuracy of student records; monitors and tracks the status of students.
  • Oversees the work of student employees.
  • Provides other administrative activities to support the efficient delivery of Undergraduate Financial Aid services as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • High level of personal responsibility along with a positive and cooperative attitude.
  • Demonstrated initiative and follow-through on tasks, taking ownership for assigned functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and proactively.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Yale policies and customer relationship management (CRM) systems such as Banner, Argos, and YalePay.
  • Experience working in higher education, student services, financial aid, or a related administrative environment.

Pay

Hourly range: $31.83

Schedule

Full time, on-site.
