About the role

The University of Virginia’s Office of the President is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Finance Associate to provide fiscal, budget, accounting, compliance, and administrative support for a collaborative, mission-driven executive office. This role supports financial transaction processing, account certifications, budget monitoring, procurement and expense activity, financial reporting, and accurate use of UVA’s financial and budget management systems. Work in an executive-level office with tremendous learning possibilities while building strong financial, analytical, compliance, and systems skills. Responsibilities

  • Serve on a team of subject matter experts to manage financial and expense-related workflows while ensuring compliance with University policies, separation of duties, and internal control requirements
  • Process purchase requisitions, payment requests, reimbursements, and expense reports accurately and in accordance with policy
  • Review expenditures for accuracy, allowability, appropriate documentation, and compliance with University and departmental requirements
  • Receive, deposit, and track expenditure reimbursements or revenue while maintaining complete and accurate records
  • Reconcile monthly account certifications and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures, assist with forecasting, and identify issues that may require follow-up or correction
  • Support month-end and year-end fiscal activities, including reconciliations, adjustments, reporting, and closeout tasks
  • Prepare and maintain documentation that supports compliance, audit readiness, internal controls, and financial accountability
  • Perform corrections and adjustments in University financial systems while maintaining data integrity and appropriate approvals
  • Stay current on evolving policies, procedures, training requirements, and financial system enhancements
  • Analyze financial activity across funds, programs, and activities to ensure accurate coding, appropriate classification, and alignment with University and departmental policy
  • Collaborate with the finance team and key stakeholders to troubleshoot accounting issues, strengthen controls, streamline processes, and recommend workflow improvements
  • Maintain the highest level of discretion and confidentiality in all matters related to the President’s Office
  • Support other financial, administrative, and special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Workday Financials, including budgeting, costing allocations and adjustments, journal entries, expense reports, and financial reporting
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Anaplan financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Knowledge of University financial policies, procedures, systems, internal controls, and compliance expectations
  • Experience supporting financial operations in higher education or an executive-level office environment
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, balance competing demands, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced executive office environment
