Associate Vice President, Finance
ASU Enterprise Partners is seeking an Associate Vice President, Finance to join the Finance Leadership Team. This role leads enterprise-wide financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, performance management, and strategic decision support across ASU Enterprise Partners and its affiliates. The position serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, integrating financial insights, strategic analysis, and risk-informed decision support to advance institutional priorities and ensure long-term financial sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Leads long-range strategic financial planning and development of annual operating budgets, incorporating enterprise risks, opportunities, and scenario-based planning.
- Serves as a strategic advisor to executive and business leaders, aligning financial resources, organizational capabilities, and operational priorities with enterprise strategy.
- Builds and maintains complex financial, operational, and risk-informed decision-making models to provide meaningful business insights and practical recommendations.
- Develops and reviews detailed assumptions for multi-year financial planning models and collaborates with business leaders to establish performance targets and resource allocation strategies.
- Conducts analyses and prepares reports on the feasibility, cost effectiveness, and regulatory implications of strategic initiatives, business proposals, and ongoing operations.
- Prepares forecasts of income and expenditure and evaluates long-range financial plans, reserve strategies, revenue projections, and expense trends.
- Develops and maintains performance measurement frameworks, dashboards, and executive reporting for actionable insights into financial results, strategic objectives, operational effectiveness, and organizational risks.
- Identifies key business challenges and leverages advanced analytics, visualization tools, and performance metrics to enhance decision-making.
- Ensures planning and performance metrics align with organizational objectives, mission fulfillment, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Communicates complex financial, operational, and strategic insights clearly to executive leadership, governing bodies, and stakeholders.
- Advances enterprise performance management capabilities, frameworks, and reporting practices to enhance accountability and transparency.
- Leads organization-wide risk assessment, scenario planning, and risk monitoring for financial, operational, strategic, compliance, and external risks.
- Integrates risk management practices into strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, performance management, and resource allocation processes.
- Oversees planning, performance management, and risk management technologies, methodologies, and reporting frameworks.
- Partners with executive leadership and governing bodies to provide analysis and recommendations on organizational performance, strategic priorities, and major initiatives.
- Identifies and leads cross-functional initiatives to improve processes, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and leverage technology and automation.
- Acts as the subject matter expert for planning, performance management, and related decision-support tools and technologies.
- Hires, develops, mentors, and retains a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Serves as a strategic resource for special projects, enterprise initiatives, governance efforts, and organizational transformations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Ten (10+) years of relevant experience in data-driven decision-making roles such as finance, financial planning & analytics (FP&A), economics, or statistics.
- Five (5) years of supervisory and/or leadership experience.

- Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, business modeling, scenario analysis, and performance management.
- Strong business acumen to connect financial performance, organizational strategy, operational effectiveness, and risk considerations.
- Proven ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, identify key issues, and provide clear recommendations to executive leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making and drive outcomes through executive presence, strategic analysis, and relationship management.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for conveying complex concepts and strategic recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships and partnering effectively across complex organizational environments.
- Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and organizational change.
- Ability to navigate complex organizational systems and support integrated planning, policy development, and strategic execution.
- Knowledge of change management principles, preferably within higher education or similarly complex mission-driven organizations.
- Advanced analytical, modeling, and decision-support capabilities, including experience with financial systems, planning platforms, and data visualization tools.
- Track record of attracting, developing, mentoring, and retaining high-performing teams.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and accountability for sensitive organizational information.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to operate effectively amid ambiguity and competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as CPA, CGMA, or ACMA.
- Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting executive leadership teams, governing boards, or large-scale organizational transformation efforts.
- Knowledge of enterprise risk management, governance, and organizational performance management practices.
- Experience operating within a complex, multi-entity, nonprofit, higher education, healthcare, or similarly matrixed organization.
