Field Testing Technician

About the role
Intertek’s Building Science Solutions (BSS) group focuses on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for new construction and retrofit projects. As a Field Testing Technician, you will perform field testing, observations, and inspections of construction materials, including below-grade waterproofing, air barriers, cladding, glazing, and roofing systems. Projects vary in size and location, spanning commercial, residential, higher education, healthcare, and large municipal sectors. This position requires up to 25% overnight/out-of-town travel.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of testing, project-specific observations, and site assessment duties under direct supervision or from detailed controlled procedures.
- Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., air and water infiltration).
- Provide assessment of data through reporting and prepare professionally written field reports.
- Work utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
- Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks.
- Make detailed observations and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results.
- Communicate effectively with client and project teams.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- General construction/carpentry knowledge and experience using power tools.
- Technical competency to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results, with a mechanical aptitude.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance policies and procedures related to the control, storage, and disposition of test specimens.
- Must adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more, sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, and pull as required.
- Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
- Up to 25% overnight/out-of-town travel required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
Qualifications
- Degree in a technical field desired, or equivalent related experience.
- Construction, glazing, roofing, or similar general construction background preferred.
