Field Technician I
About the role
Lumen is seeking a Field Technician I to join our dynamic team. This role involves managing assets, installing, provisioning, testing, and maintaining network services. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting, installing network equipment, and performing preventive maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots network equipment and isolates issues to restore network integrity.
- Installs and tests Next Generation technologies such as Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP networks.
- Maintains tools, test sets, and network equipment, ensuring their proper functioning.
- Performs preventive and scheduled maintenance on critical infrastructure including HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
- Updates installation records and logs, and reports status updates and issues to management.
- Evaluates performance and identifies areas for improvement under supervision.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Up to 2 years of relevant job experience in network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair
- At least one of the following technician disciplines: Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, Outside Plant
- Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., work in all weather conditions, and have PC skills with Microsoft Windows and Office applications
- Valid driver’s license
- On-call 24x7, on stand-by, call out, dispatch, and overtime as required

- 2+ years of relevant job experience
- Attention to detail and good organizational capabilities
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
Skills
- Basic understanding of transport, Ethernet, SONET, and IP network layers

Pay
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $41,310 - $54,570 in New Mexico and $45,021 - $60,027 in Texas. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Schedule
Regular hours are typically Monday through Friday, with occasional on-call and overtime requirements.
