Field Technician, Atmospheric Corrosion Insp

Heath Consultants is expanding its Field Operations team for a major project and is hiring Atmospheric Corrosion Inspectors (ACI) to support work across multiple regions. No prior industry experience is required—all training and operator qualifications are provided.

About The Role

As an Atmospheric Corrosion Inspector, you will conduct regulated inspections on natural gas meter sets and above-ground piping systems to identify, document, and mitigate atmospheric corrosion. Your work ensures system integrity, prevents safety hazards, and maintains regulatory compliance. This position requires outdoor work, field documentation, interaction with customers and property owners, and strict adherence to federal guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Perform Regulated Atmospheric Corrosion Inspections
  • Conduct thorough visual and physical examinations of gas meter sets exposed to the atmosphere.
  • Inspect corrosion-prone areas such as:
    • Soil-to-air interfaces
    • Pipe supports
    • Splash zones
    • Disbonded coatings
    • Exposed metallic components
  • Assess coating integrity and identify signs of surface rust, pitting, or advanced corrosion.
• Perform Remediation When Needed
  • Conduct surface-level remediation at Heath’s/client’s discretion, including:
    • Wire brushing
    • Cleaning
    • Priming
    • Painting using approved materials
  • Apply protective coatings.
• Use Industry-Approved Tools & Technology
  • Utilize handheld equipment and specialized tools for corrosion assessment.
  • Use CGI/sniffer equipment for leak detection when required (including Minnesota inside meter protocols).
  • Complete all documentation in Survey123 / Service Suit, entering:
    • GPS location
    • Technician ID
    • Timestamp
    • Leak classification
    • Required photo angles
    • Notes on anomalies or corrosion
• Identify and Report Safety Issues
  • Immediately contact the Call Center if gas odor or a hazardous condition is detected and remain on-site until relieved.
• Customer Service & Access Management
  • Request entry for inside meter inspections (where applicable).
  • Communicate professionally with property owners to gain access, explain the inspection purpose, and ensure a positive experience.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to walk 4–7 miles per day, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 lbs
• Ability to work independently and follow regulatory procedures
• Ability to use mobile devices and documentation applications

Qualifications

Heath provides all required training and testing for Operator Qualifications. Depending on the region, employees must obtain qualifications under:

• ASME B31Q (TX)
• MEA OQ Program (IN, OH)

Covering skills such as:

• Visual inspection for atmospheric corrosion
• Abnormal operating conditions
• Hazards of natural gas & ignition prevention
• Coating application & repair
• Leak investigation

Vehicle Program (Personal Vehicle Use)

Employees in this role are enrolled in Heath's Personal Vehicle (POV) Program, which provides:

• $800 monthly vehicle allowance
• $300 monthly fuel card

To qualify, employees must meet the following standards:

• Active auto insurance (minimum 100/300/100 coverage or $300,000 CSL)
• Proof of insurance provided at renewal
• A vehicle that meets Heath's standards: 4-door, backup camera, hands-free capability, and professional appearance

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience in utility inspection, construction, field survey work, or related roles
• Customer service or field service experience
