Field Service Technician - Portland, OR
for sections like About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. Only include sections with real specific content. No job title heading. No Job ID. Remove boilerplate: cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, application instructions. Also remove "Work Authorization", "Equal Opportunity Employer" etc. Also remove "Notes" about accommodations? That's legal boilerplate; maybe remove. Also remove "About Us" maybe? The posting includes "About Us" and "About Vertiv". Those are not required sections but could be considered "About the role"? The instruction: use headings for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). So we should map content to those headings. We have:
- About the role: description of role: "The Field Service Technician is primarily responsible for scheduled and remedial (break-fix) service on Small to Medium UPS, Power Distribution Units & Battery system products serviced by Vertiv, commensurate with appropriate classroom and on-the-job training. The Field Service Technician is required to establish, promote and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate. The Field Service Technician is primarily responsible to support products and services sold to our “Edge” market segment, including retail, financial, and municipal customers."
We can put that under About the role
with
. - Responsibilities: there is a big block with subheadings ROLE, SAFETY, ADMINISTRATION, CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, PERFORMANCE. We can combine into a list under Responsibilities. Use
- for each duty. Should we keep subheadings? Probably not; just list items.
- Qualifications: includes Experience (one or more of the following) list, Interpersonal and Administrative Skills, Technical skills. Could be under Qualifications heading. Could also separate Skills but instruction says we can have Skills section. But we have technical skills and interpersonal skills. Could combine under Qualifications or separate Skills. Since we have both, maybe we create Qualifications heading for experience and education, and Skills heading for interpersonal and technical skills. But we need to avoid thin sections. Let's see content:
Experience (one or more of the following):
- ASEET or AMEET, or progress towards, is preferred
- High School or Vocational School Diploma
- 2-4 years military experience in a related technical field
- 0-2 years of relevant industry experience
Interpersonal and Administrative Skills:
- Communicate professionally and respectfully in both written and verbal forms
- Manage time effectively by prioritizing and balancing technical tasks with administrative tasks
- Collaborative with peers, customers, suppliers, and leadership
- Complete administrative tasks (i.e. report writing, time entry, expense reporting, material debriefing, inventory counting, etc.) in a timely fashion
Technical skills:
- Make basic site evaluation skills to include: environmental temperature, and general operating conditions
- Familiarity with electrical / electronic test equipment and fundamentals
- Follow written technical documentation (i.e. procedures and product manuals) to perform service tasks
- Employ elementary fix/repair techniques based on directed supervision
- Complete service tasks and return unit to full operating conditions based upon directed supervision
- Summarize and report all work related tasks performed in written and verbal form
- Efficient with a personal computer and associated applications (Microsoft Office, Vertiv software, etc.)
We could put all under Qualifications heading with sublists? But instruction: Use
- for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. So we can have multiple lists under a heading.
We also have Working Conditions: Travel required, Flexible schedules (weekends, evenings, holidays), Valid driver’s license, drug test, background check, motor vehicle records check. Physical Requirements: list of physical demands. Could be under Requirements? Or maybe under Qualifications? The instruction includes Requirements heading. Could put physical requirements and working conditions under Requirements. Also include "Valid driver’s license" etc.
Benefits: "Competitive benefits include: Company vehicle, smartphone, laptop, personal protective equipment (PPE), other tools-of-the-trade, 401k, Profit Sharing, & Generous PTO/Vacation Plan, Medical, Vision & Dental & more". Also "Abundant technical resources including 24/7 Technical/Factory Support and technical online libraries of product documentation, work instructions, and self-help troubleshooting guides". Also "Company-wide commitment to promoting a strong work/life balance". Also "An employer-of-choice for Veterans with technical backgrounds". So we have benefits.
Pay: Not mentioned. So we should NOT include Pay section.
Schedule: Not explicitly mentioned besides flexible schedules (weekends, evenings, holidays). That could be considered schedule info. The instruction: include Schedule section only if posting actually states them. It does mention flexible schedules (weekends, evenings, and holidays). So we can include Schedule section with that info.
Also we have "Travel is required". That could be under Schedule or Requirements. Might be better under Schedule? But schedule is about timing; travel is separate. Could put under Requirements or Working Conditions. Since we don't have a Working Conditions heading, we could put travel under Schedule or Requirements. Perhaps include travel under Schedule as part of schedule flexibility? Might be okay.
We must not include boilerplate like "Equal Opportunity Employer", "Work Authorization", "Notes", "About Us", "About Vertiv", "Core Principles", etc. Also remove duplicated lines.
