About the role
SPECTRO, a leading supplier of analytical instruments and a member of the AMETEK Materials Analysis Division, seeks a Field Service Technician to provide on-site and remote troubleshooting, installation, training, and support for customers across the USA and occasionally internationally.
Responsibilities
- Travel extensively (100%) throughout the USA Monday through Friday, with occasional international travel and weekend/holiday work.
- Perform remote and phone technical support for customers and service technicians.
- Conduct on-site installations, training, repairs, hardware integration, and software upgrades for complex analytical products.
- Follow testing procedures to ensure proper product functionality and operational quality.
- Troubleshoot equipment start-up malfunctions and implement corrective actions.
- Address complex technical questions and collaborate with customers to resolve issues.
- Work with In-House Tech Support and Manufacturing groups to recommend design changes and resolve problems.
- Prepare and submit accurate expense and service reports in a timely manner.
- Utilize AI tools to enhance productivity, decision-making, work quality, and cost reduction; critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
- Participate in continuous hardware and software training, both locally and internationally.
Requirements
- Competency in control system electronics and high-voltage power supplies.
- Hands-on field service experience or maintenance/repair of analytical lab instrumentation.
- Experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g., ICP-OES, ED-XRF, HH-XRF, Arc/Spark-OES) is a plus.
- Understanding of vacuum systems, metallurgy, physics, and chemistry (preferred).
- Proficiency with basic hand tools and above-average computer skills (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Associate’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
- Must be located in or near Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, or Pittsburgh, within 1 hour of a major airport.
Pay
Hourly position with an annual salary range of $75,000–$85,000 USD, based on experience, skills, qualifications, market considerations, and geographic location.
