About the Role

The Field Service Technician (FST) ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas compression equipment within an assigned territory. This role supports field operations by maximizing equipment uptime, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, and delivering high-quality service to internal and external customers. The FST works independently in remote field environments and plays a critical role in maintaining operational continuity for midstream partners.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on natural gas compression equipment, including engines, compressors, coolers, and associated components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct engine overhauls, compressor rebuilds, and component replacements as needed.
  • Complete startups, shutdowns, and commissioning activities safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor equipment performance and operating conditions; identify and escalate abnormal trends.
  • Work overtime and participate in on-call rotations, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ensure all work complies with USA Compression standards, OEM specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Submit accurate maintenance reports, expense reports, timesheets, and other required paperwork daily.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental guidelines.
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and required training.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including service reports, work orders, and parts usage.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for customers, providing professional communication and timely updates.
  • Coordinate with operations, logistics, and engineering teams to support equipment needs.
  • Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in clean, safe working condition.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in engines, rotating equipment, or heavy machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor, remote, and sometimes harsh environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Must provide own small hand tools.
  • Solid professional communication and customer service skills; this role involves frequent customer interaction.

Preferred Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in gas compression, with preference for CAT, Ariel, and/or Cummins certifications.
  • Experience maintaining large or small horsepower units, gas lift or traditional compression units, and related equipment.
  • Technical certification or vocational training in diesel, natural gas engines, or industrial maintenance.
  • Experience in midstream oil & gas field operations.

Work Environment

  • 100% on-site and field-based; no remote or hybrid work available.
  • Regular travel within assigned territory; occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather, rotating equipment, and industrial environments.
  • Exposure to high noise levels (exceeding 85dBA) requiring ear protection, and potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
