Field Service Technician

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on natural gas compression equipment, including engines, compressors, coolers, and associated components.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct engine overhauls, compressor rebuilds, and component replacements as needed.
  • Complete start-ups, shutdowns, and commissioning activities safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor equipment performance and operating conditions; identify and escalate abnormal trends.
  • Respond to call-outs and emergency situations to restore equipment functionality.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with USA Compression standards, OEM specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Submit accurate maintenance reports, expense reports, timesheets and other necessary paperwork daily.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental guidelines.
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and required training.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including service reports, work orders, and parts usage.

Customer & Team Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary field contact for customers, providing professional communication and timely updates.
  • Cookordinate with operations, logistics, and engineering teams to support equipment needs.
  • Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment in clean, safe working condition.

Qualifications

  • Solid professional communication/interface skills with customer field personnel, onsite vendors, and other employees.
  • This role is often the USAC position with the most customer interaction. Excellent customer service and positive communication skills are critical to the success in the FST role.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • High mechanical aptitude with experience in engines, rotating equipment, or heavy machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently in outdoor, remote, and sometimes harsh environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Must provide own small hand tools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2 years of experience in gas compression with preference to CAT, Ariel and/or Cummins certifications and experience.
  • Experience in midstream oil & gas field operations.
  • Technical certification or vocational training in diesel, natural gas engines, or industrial maintenance.

Work Environment

  • This position is 100% on-site and field-based; no remote or hybrid work is available.
  • Regular travel within assigned territory; occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather, rotating equipment, and industrial environments.
  • Some exposure to high noise levels in excess of 85dBA that require ear protection, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
