Field Service Technician
About the role
TDS Telecom is a leading provider of high-speed internet, TV entertainment, and phone services. This role involves on-site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Aids in and performs on-site installations, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment and general network equipment.
- Identifies location of defective cable using various test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, underground, and customer cable.
- Locates cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
- Pole climbing and operating construction equipment is required.
- Locates, identifies, and marks company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage.
- Keeps orderly log of all locate requests in our exchange area.
- Performs cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
- Assists with and provides troubleshooting support techniques and corrections.
- Responds to “trouble” dispatches.
- Assists with and provides support for enhancing and maintaining record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
- Provides excellent customer service.
- Proactively educates and sells TDS products and services to customers.
- Gains working knowledge of RUS Standards and Grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment.
Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
- Follow TDS attendance guidelines.
- Successfully complete customer-specific requirements, including a background check.
- Be available for on-call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Maintain DOT requirements related to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
- Gain A+ certification and computer networking experience.
- Gain an understanding of telecommunication products and services.
- Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications including databases, trouble/dispatch systems, plant record systems, MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
Qualifications
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Pay
The base salary range for this role is $22.62 per hour to $33.94 per hour. Offers will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, experience, location, and role-specific competencies. Some positions may also offer additional compensation, such as bonuses or equity awards.
Schedule
This role will be expected to follow a Wednesday–Saturday schedule, working four 10-hour shifts (8:00 AM–7:00 PM). Additional overtime may be required as-needed, and participation in an on-call rotation is required. This position requires the individual to reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the De Pere, WI warehouse located at: 1800 Scheuring Rd Ste A - De Pere, WI 54115.
