Field Service Technician
Job Summary
Provide field-based installation, training, demonstrations, and technical support for Ultimate Linings customers. Ensure proper equipment setup, application execution, and long-term customer success through hands-on support, troubleshooting, and education.
Key Responsibilities
Lead installation of plural component spray equipment
Prepare customers for installation (booth, power, air, materials)
Train customers on:
- Equipment operation and maintenance
- Proper coating application per TDS and specifications
- Surface preparation requirements
Provide all required technical documentation
Conduct product demonstrations and field trials
Partner with Sales to ensure successful evaluations
Communicate product performance, chemistry, and advantages
Perform root cause analysis of coating failures
Identify issues related to:
- Application technique
- Equipment setup
- Surface preparation
Provide corrective actions and best practice recommendations
Provide ongoing technical support:
- On-site service and repairs
- Phone support through UL technical call center
- Conduct periodic customer visits
- Deliver ongoing training on application and equipment
Cross-functional support as needed:
- Sales
- Product Development
- GFX Lab
- Line-X Qualifications
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent
- Relevant field experience
Experience
- Minimum Required: 4+ years in protective coatings, polyurea/polyurethane, or related field
- Hands-on experience with plural component spray equipment (Graco preferred)
Job-Specific Skills
- Strong Working Knowledge Of Polyurea and polyurethane coating systems
- Surface preparation standards and impact on coating performance
- Hands-on Experience With Plural component spray equipment (Graco XP, Reactor, etc.)
- Spray gun operation, rebuild, and troubleshooting
- Ability To Diagnose and resolve field issues related to:
- Equipment function
- Material processing
- Application technique
Technical Understanding
- Basic hydraulics and pressure systems
- Electrical components and controls in spray equipment
Communication Skills
- Strong communication skills
- Able to explain complex technical topics to customers
- Provide clear, actionable guidance in high-pressure situations

Certifications
- Preferred: AMPP (SSPC/NACE), PDA, or AAMP
- Experience With High-pressure coating application in industrial environments
- Failure analysis reporting and documentation
- Familiarity With Industry standards (ASTM, AMPP, SSPC)
- Coating specifications and inspection methods
